At the gate of the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Biała (Śląskie Voivodeship), someone hung a plastic bag with an insulting letter and faeces. The perpetrator was recorded by a surveillance camera, he was arrested and pleaded guilty. Expert psychiatrists found him insane. Therefore, the prosecutor discontinued the investigation.
The district prosecutor’s office in Żywiec, due to the insanity of the suspect, dismissed the case of the insulting of the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Biała. This was announced by the deputy district prosecutor in Żywiec, Piotr Sowa.
The case was transferred to the prosecutor’s office in Żywiec because it was designated to handle cases of this type.
He pleaded guilty, explained the deed and turned out to be insane
In early July 2021 a plastic bag was hung at the gate of the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Biała. In the middle was a piece of paper with offensive content and faeces. The perpetrator was registered by a surveillance camera – he drove to the cemetery on a scooter.
The police detained a 50-year-old inhabitant of Bielsko-Biała and charged him with publicly insulting a group of people due to their nationality and the place designated for the rituals.
The man pleaded guilty. He explained that his beliefs motivated him. As Piotr Sowa said, there was no need to apply any precautionary measures. Investigators ordered a psychiatric observation of a 50-year-old. The experts ruled that he was insane.
The first time was the devastation of almost 70 tombstones
It was the second time when the Bielsko Jewish cemetery was insulted. At the end of June almost 70 tombstones were destroyed there. The policemen quickly detained the suspects of devastation. They are three boys aged 12 and 13. According to the officers, it was a typical hooligan prank, an act of vandalism. They are both answerable in a family court.
More tombstones, thanks to donors, are being restored – including that of Salomon Vulcan, a famous Jewish stonemason.
