Elizabeth Holmes is imprisoned for cheating investors through his company Theranos. She promised a revolution in blood tests, but nothing came of the promises and the 11-year sentence was serving. In the meantime, Billy Evans, her partner assumes her own company and makes similar promises.

Billy Evans, who has two children from Elizabeth Holmes, is trying to raise money for a company that describes himself in marketing materials as “the future of diagnostics” and “radically a new approach to health tests”. The company is counting on finding a funding of $ 50 million.

For those familiar with the Holmes case, this may sound familiar. After all, Theranos in a similar way wanted to revolutionize diagnostic tests. The start-up from the Silicon Valley attracted the attention of the world, claiming, as it turned out, he had developed a blood test device that can carry out a number of complex laboratory tests using a simple finger puncture.

Evansa is called Haemanthus. This is the Latin name Krasnokwiat, a decorative plant, which is also known as a bloody lily.

Evans plans to study people

According to two investors who spoke anonymously, the company plans to start testing pets before switching to people's research. In the prospectus for potential investors there is a photo of a device that would examine blood, saliva and urine.

As the New York Times notes, it is quite similar to the already unfriendly devices that Theranos promoted under the name Edison or Minilab. The device from Evans has a rectangular shape, it is equipped with a digital screen, and behind the small door there are tinted lasers.

According to marketing materials and the company's patent, the Haemanthus device will use a laser to scan blood, saliva or urine of pets and analyze samples at molecular level. In a few seconds, as stated in marketing materials, the Evansa device will be able to identify and qualify biomarkers, such as glucose and hormones, and implement what the company calls deep learning models to detect cancer and infections.

Haemanthus informed investors that he has about two dozen advisors, including veterinarians and diagnosticians, although he did not give their names.

Who is Billy Evans?

Evans, a 33-year-old heir of the California hotel fortune, met Holmes when the federal authorities were investigating her. They have two children together. Until now, he has not spoken publicly about his new undertaking. Documents indicate that he has already collected about 10 employees. In social media, he describes his employment as a “hidden start-up” work.

James W. Breyer, a well -known investor Venture Capital and an early investor in Facebook, said that his team was asked to invest money and gave up this “for many of the same reasons why we rejected Theranos twice”.

“In diagnostics, we have long believed that the difference between an interesting history and a great company lies in scientific defense and clinical usability,” Breyer wrote in response to the questions “NYT”.

“Lord God, give me confidence that I can convince investors like Billy Evans, who introduces Theranos 2.0 to the market, while his wife is still serving the sentence for Theranos 1.0” – this is how the case commented on the portal X Ruby Gadelrab, president and founder of MDISRUPT, a platform connecting the digital health industry with selected experts.

What was Theranos?

Theranos has become one of the most famous start-ups in the world in the last decade and attracted both large investors (Rupert Murdoch, Larry Ellison), as well as the advice of advisers, in which Henry Kissinger was found. Holmes, often dressed in a black turtleneck, which aroused comparisons to the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, was celebrated on the covers of warehouses and in the White House.

Few knew that Theranos technology was unable to diagnose hundreds of diseases that she could, she claimed. Theranos largely used third parties technology to conduct primitive tests – if he had any tests at all. Patients received false diagnoses. The company fell before the accusation of Holmes of fraud.

Holmes, who always maintained that she was innocent, was sentenced to fraud in 2022 and sentenced to 11 years in prison. She is embedded in a federal prison in Bryan, Texas.
