For almost an hour he lay unconscious under the rubble of a collapsed wall. When he woke up, he called for help himself. Firefighters rescued a 72-year-old from a destroyed house in Biskupice (Opolskie Voivodeship), where a gas explosion occurred early Sunday morning.

Around 4 o’clock on Sunday (August 27), a gas explosion occurred in one of the single-family houses in Biskupice near Kluczbork (Opolskie Voivodeship).

The services received the notification only around 5. – It turned out that no one noticed the explosion, and there was only one person in the building. However, the elderly man was crushed by the collapsed wall and lost consciousness. He woke up about an hour later and called 112 himself – informed the aspirant Krystyna Alaszewicz from the Kluczbork police.

Before 6 a.m., firefighters pulled a 72-year-old man out of the rubble and handed him over to paramedics. Senior spent less than two hours under the rubble. According to the fire department’s statement, rescuers ruled out that there were other people in the building.

– Preliminary findings show that the wall collapsed after the gas cylinder exploded. However, we do not know what caused the explosion – said the aspirant Alaszewicz.

A spokeswoman for the Kluczbork police added that the 72-year-old was taken to the hospital with second-degree burns to his hands. He also has general bruises, including a head wound.
