Black bee seen in Roztocze
On the last day of May, around noon, Przemysław Stachyra from the Roztoczański National Park noticed the plasma in the mid -forest settlement in Florianka, where there are extensive pastures with flower meadows. This is the first – as he said – a documented statement of black bee in this area. “We do not prejudge which species was specifically – both are equally rare and valuable naturally. I immediately knew that it was a black bee, because it is very characteristic: large as a bumblebee, black, with a deep blue -violet gloss – just a beautiful insect” – assessed the expert.
Describing this meeting, Przemysław Stachyra pointed out that it was a single bee in flight, most likely a female. Several times she sat on the flower “not even for a whole second”. “She probably touched some nectar and sat from a flower to flower, finally flew away. At that time I was able to take some photos for the documentation” – he added.
Black bees are not aggressive
I will buy a purple (Xylocopa Violacea) or black region (Xylocopa Valga) in Poland so far has been seen, among others in Białowieża, Bieszczady, Ojców National Park or in Polesie, and in 2024 at the campus of the University of Wrocław. Colloquially, these insects are called a black bee. Black bees usually build nests in the wood of dead trees. They bite the corridors in which they lay eggs. They pollinate flowers, among others Bobik, Wyka and Żmijowiec.
Black bees are not aggressive, unless they defend the nests. They are very mobile, so it's better to make a short clip than a photo, because the film records more smooth movements and you can see more
– advised Przemysław Stachyra.
Return of the Black Bee
Until recently, entomologists considered a black bee as an extinct species in Poland. Currently, he lives primarily in the south of Europe, e.g. Spain, PortugalFrance and We Owners. According to the naturalist, this species returns to Poland mainly because of climate change. The better state of behavior of dead trees is also significant. “That's why it's worth it in forests There were more and more dying trees, because it is a place of reproduction not only bees, but also many other species. The flower meadows are also important in this context, “the expert added. Bees of this species are under strict protection. They are inscribed in the Polish Red Book of Animals. (PAP), among others
