A few days after Christmas, the 73rd edition of the Four Hills Tournament began! In Sunday's competition in Oberstdorf, we saw only four Polish representatives – Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Jakub Wolny and Paweł Wąsek. The first two quickly left the competition. Wolny i, on the other hand, was happy with the promotion Wąsekthe result of which was a solace for the disastrous performances of the rest of our jumpers.

Małysz used the language of truth. He didn't beat around the bush

Ultimately Paweł Wąsek after jumping on distances of 137 and 130 meters he took 10th place. Jakub Wolny finished the competition in 30th place. Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch did not appear at Schattenbergschanze. A very worried Thomas Thurnbichler watched everything and became happy only after Wąsek's great jump.

“When Wąsek started from the starting beam, Thurnbichler looked as if his thoughts were far away from the hill. Maybe in his home, away from all these events that he has no control over. Although he keeps repeating that he knows what he is doing and that in a moment, In a moment, his players will fly away. When Wąsek reached 137 meters in great style, Thurnbichler jumped up for joy” – wrote Łukasz Jachimiak from Sport.pl, who added that Wąsek literally “saved the beginning of the 73rd Four Hills Tournament and the coach of our team himself.”

Nevertheless, there is no need to emphasize that Polish jumpers this season are performing similarly to the previous one, which is – to put it mildly – bad. Adam Małysz does not downplay this state of affairs. While at the beginning of the campaign the president of the Polish Ski Association appealed for calm and trust, now after Sunday's competition he did not heed his words.

– On the one hand, Paweł's result was really nice, but on the other… the rest was tragic – he said in an interview with Onet Sports Review. Małysz then referred to the issue of equipment, which is the alleged reason for the poor results. – We keep talking about the equipment and that we are losing here, but Paweł jumped very well with this equipment […] Playerswho seemed the most stable, still make mistakes. It seemed that Dawid Kubacki only calm training can help. Only it didn't work. Well, we're going to have a longer and serious conversation, because I no longer believe that the problem is only in the equipment, he emphasized.

Is the head of Polish ski jumping seriously concerned about what is happening to the team led by Thurnbichler? – Yes. It's not all simple. I talk all the time, especially now with Alex Stoeckl, about this and he keeps telling me that you need patience. Only I explain to him that we spend a lot of money, but there are no results. How can I be calm, how can the ministry and sponsors be calm? – he said. Adam Małysz summed up the topic of possible changes in the coaching staff with the following sentence: – It's hard for me to answer at the moment. This is not the time to think about it and change it, he concluded.

The second competition of this year's TCS will take place on Wednesday at 14:00 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Qualifying is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. We invite you to follow the live coverage on Sport.pl and our mobile application Sport.pl LIVE.
