Fraudsters impersonate BNP Paribas and send information to clients about the alleged blocking of the bill – warns Cyberrescue. “Hold up and don't click any links! It's a classic scam that can end in taking over your account” – add experts.

“If a message allegedly from the bank with information about the blocked account came to your box, because the card was used on many devices … Hold and don't click any links!” – recommends Cyberrescue.

False messages from fraudsters

As he explains, “fraudsters send false emails in which they try to convince the user for quick action.”

“What can we read in such a message? Information that the used card 'is associated with many devices' and for security reasons the account will be blocked. In addition, you have to hurry, because you only have 12 hours to verify, otherwise your payments will be permanently disabled” – they describe Experts.

The message also has a link to the alleged side of BNP Paribas, where we are to “confirm our identity”.

Will you provide login details there? Well, they just hit the hands of fraudsters who gained access to the account. Your savings will be threatened! Meanwhile, the real BNP Paribas never sends such emails and does not make anyone log in to banking by suspicious links, “we read in the communiqué.

Cybercriminals know how to manipulate emotions, and fear and time pressure are their favorite tools. “When we see a message about a blocked account and we only have a certain time to react, it's easy to panic, and also take hastily actions. Fraudsters are just waiting for it” – notes Cyberrescue.

What should the victims do?

Cyberrescue warns against clicking into unknown links, as well as providing login data on unverified pages. You should also check the sender-often the email addresses of fraudsters are full of typos or strange domains, e.g. BNP-Paribas-Secure-login[.]com.

When the login details went to the false page, please contact the bank immediately and report that the account may have been taken over. You also need to change the login details for banking. Passwords should have a minimum of 12 characters and be unique, which means that they cannot be the same or similar on different accounts.

Cyberrescue is a startup founded in 2018 focusing on saving people who fell victim to cyber criminals. The company's experts specialize, among others, in securing lost devices, recovering access to taken over social media portals, returns of funds stolen from bank accounts or verifying suspicious messages
