Before the District Court in Kielce (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship) a non-final judgment was issued in the case of a 21-year-old man accused of murdering his grandmother. The court sentenced the man to fifteen years in prison.

The trial concerned events that took place in April 2022 in Bodzentyn in the Kielce poviat. The body of an 89-year-old woman was found in her home. The elderly woman was visited by her relative and friend, concerned that they had not been in contact with her for several days.

An autopsy showed that the woman’s cause of death was head injuries, which resulted in death. As the investigators established, it was 20-year-old Krzysztof C. who committed the murder. It was established that he hit the woman with the butt of an axe.

He pleaded guilty

The man pleaded guilty, during the trial he said that his grandmother mentally abused him, called him a “Russian bastard”, and also reported his mother, who was Russian, to the police.

The prosecutor’s office demanded a 25-year sentence for the man, which the court did not agree to. Judge Kamil Czyżewski, the chairman of the adjudicating panel, decided that this would be an elimination penalty. As mitigating circumstances, it was indicated that the accused expressed remorse, regret and confessed his guilt, and he had no previous criminal record.

Eventually, the 21-year-old was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was also ordered to undergo mandatory drug addiction treatment.
