Storm Bora is raging over Greece. The weekend is expected to be marked by heavy rainfall, strong winds and local snow. At least one person died as a result of the flood.
Dangerous weather conditions began on the night from Friday to Saturday. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) warned of strong wind gusts, storms and downpours, and in the northern part of the country also snowfall.
Bora storm in Greece. One person is dead
The situation was particularly difficult on the Greek islands. One person died as a result of flash floods that hit the island of Lemnos in the Aegean Sea. The body of a 57-year-old cattle breeder was found near his car.
“He tried to get the vehicle out of the mud and it was swept away by a rushing torrent in the Kontia village region,” a fire brigade official told Reuters. Another firefighter added that there were dozens of calls to pump water from flooded buildings.
Meteorological warnings in Greece will remain in force for most of the weekend. On the island of Tinos and Attica, residents received a weather safety alert in which authorities advised against traveling on Saturday. Dangerous conditions are expected to subside on Sunday evening.
