The trial of Czesław K., accused of the murder of his wife Grażyna K. in Borzęcin in 2019, has begun. A man in a police convoy was brought to court for interrogation.

The trial began on Friday in the District Court in Tarnów (Lesser Poland).

– At the request of the defender, with the approval of the prosecutor, the court closed the hearing in full for the sake of the minor victim, i.e. the son of the deceased Grażyna K. and the accused Czesław K. – said Małgorzata Stanisławczyk-Karpiel, spokeswoman for the criminal court in Tarnów.

The court set five hearing dates, the last one for October 4. If necessary, e.g. due to the need to supplement the evidence, there will be further hearings.

Murder in Borzęcin

According to the investigators’ findings, the homicide allegedly took place on January 3-4, 2019 in Borzęcin. The woman’s body was found in late February. Her family had previously reported her missing. Investigators established that the woman came to the country in January from England. Her husband was to be the last person to see her alive that evening. Despite the lack of contact, the next day the man did not report his wife’s disappearance, because – as reported by the Lesser Poland police – he was convinced that the woman had returned to England and they would meet again there.

The British police detained Czesław K. in July 2019 on the basis of the European Arrest Warrant issued by the Tarnów district court. Since then, for almost three years, the procedure of handing him over to the Polish justice system has been going on. It finally took place in May last year. At that time, the man was charged with depriving the life of his wife Grażyna K.
