A meteorologist went missing during an extreme snowstorm in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to local media, the man went to the observatory on the top of Mount Bjelašnica on Tuesday morning and showed no sign of life. The search operation was interrupted on Thursday due to difficult weather conditions.
They have been passing over the Balkans for several days storms snowy. The situation is particularly difficult in western and north-western Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some towns were cut off from the worldand a state of emergency was declared in many regions.
Action in extreme conditions
According to local media, a meteorologist from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute disappeared in snowstorms near Sarajevo. On Tuesday morning, the 46-year-old set off towards the observatory located on the top of Mount Bjelašnica. His colleagues were alarmed by the fact that he showed no sign of life until the afternoon. The police and mountain rescue services were informed about the disappearance.
The search began on Tuesday afternoon, but due to difficult conditions it had to be stopped. On Wednesday and Thursday, despite thick fog, minimal visibility and strong wind, rescuers continued the search for the meteorologist, but after dark it was necessary to suspend the operation.
– Tomorrow we expect better weather and reduced wind strength, so we will have the opportunity to search the area again in better conditions and expand the scope of the search – said the rescuers.
