The rabbit misunderstanding led to a fight between KLM employees and a passenger at Sao Paulo airport in Brazil. The Dutch airline regretted the incident.
Two Brazilians, Jorge and Gabriella, decided to go by plane from Sao Paulo to Dublin. They chose KLM, which offered a connection via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
During the briefing, which took place at Guarulhos airport (GRU) near Sao Paulo, there was a sharp exchange of views, reported by the daily “Algemeen Dagblad”. The Dutch newspaper also published a video of the incident.
The passengers wanted to take the rabbit Alfredo on board. They even obtained a special permit issued by a Brazilian court. However, during check-in, it turned out that KLM staff did not want to consent to the animal.
There was an exchange of views, which turned into a fight with one of the passengers. “We very much regret it, KLM condemns all forms of violence by both staff and passengers,” said an airline spokesman, quoted by a Dutch daily. At the same time, he added that, apart from cats and dogs, the airline does not agree to transport other animals on board the plane for safety reasons and for their welfare.
Accordingly, KLM employees were convinced that they could not agree to transport a rabbit on board the machine. Finally, Alfredo, together with his guardians, landed on Saturday at the airport in Amsterdam, from where he continued his journey to Ireland. Jorge and Gabriella, the owners of the rabbit, announced in a Facebook post that Alfredo is doing well.
