The assassination of the Brazilian mayor on the eve of local elections was probably smashed, the police said. As indicated, he was to be organized by supporters of a 72-year-old politician in the hope that he would give him support from a key vote. According to officers, the witness anonymously testified that “the mayor himself asked” hired bombers to “shoot the windshield of his car”.
In October last year, on the eve of local government elections, the car, which was driven by José Aprilgio da Silva, the mayor of the city of Taboão da Serra in the suburbs of Sao Paulo, was shelled. The politician was wounded in the left hip and was hospitalized. There were many voices of support for him, including from the president of the country Luiza Inácio Luli da Silva. Now the police shed new light on the case.
Police: The attack was fake
As “Guardian” writes, this week the police announced that this attack was most likely filed. As indicated, he was to be organized by supporters of the 72-year-old mayor in the hope that he would give him support for a key vote. To this end, they allegedly rented two people who, in exchange for 500,000 Brazilian realities (approx. PLN 350,000) were fired by a local politician vehicle.
According to officers, the witness anonymously testified that “the mayor himself asked them to shoot the windshield of his car.” Investigators, however, admitted that they did not have unequivocal evidence. Silva's lawyers deny such information and emphasize that he was surprised by the claims, that the attack was shaken. They noted that the mayor “is a victim” of the whole event, he was seriously wounded and “almost lost his life.”
The Brazilian media suggest that his injuries could actually arise in an unintentional way, because “bombers” did not take into account that the protective windows of his vehicle are not enough. The police emphasized that, according to the evidence gathered, “there was no attempt to murder the mayor”, but fiction aimed at helping his campaign. Despite this, the politician did not obtain re -election.
