Broadway Star Hinton Battle {Dead} at 67

The Broadway group has misplaced a star.

Hinton Battle—who originated the position of the Scarecrow in The Wiz—died on Jan. 29 on the age of 67, his longtime good friend Debbie Allen confirmed. A reason behind loss of life was not revealed.

“As we speak I honor Hinton Battle, my pricey good friend who left us to bounce and sing in God’s Ensemble final evening,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “He fought this battle to dwell and be inventive impacting audiences and younger folks throughout the globe. Allow us to all the time maintain him excessive in our hearts and in our thoughts’s eye and without end converse his title.” 

Battle took on the position of the Scarecrow after graduating from the Jones Haywood College of Ballet in Washington D.C. and the College of American Ballet in New York, based on his bio from his expertise company MSA.

He went on to win three Tony Awards for his roles in Subtle Women, The Faucet Dance Child and Miss Saigon and likewise appeared within the musicals Chicago, Dreamgirls and Dancin’.
