An informal summit of the European Union will be held on Monday in Brussels. The EU heads of state and government will negotiate the appointment of the most important positions in the European Union. The main negotiators of the European People's Party will be Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The topic of Monday's meeting will primarily be issues related to discussing the next steps once they have been completed elections to the European Parliament. The negotiations will concern, among others, the appointment of key EU positions, including the presidents of the European Council and the European Commission and the head of EU diplomacy.

The heads of state and government will also agree on who should chair the European Parliament, although in this case the choice is made by MEPs themselves.

On Tuesday, Tusk will go to Luxembourg, where further meetings are scheduled.

They will have priority

The European People's Party won Sunday's European Parliament elections, winning 190 seats. This means a slight increase in ownership. The European People's Party will therefore have priority in deciding who will be the head of the European Commission.

In addition to the center-right, the social democrats and liberals will also take part in the division of positions, and together with the EPP they will maintain the so-called grand coalition in the new term of office of the European Parliament.

Discussions on filling EU positions will continue during the European Council summit on June 27-28.
