The president tried to draw attention to himself once again by making a decision that was, in my opinion, at least inconsistent, said Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, in “Fakty po Faktach”. She commented in this way on the signing of the budget act by Andrzej Duda and its referral to the Constitutional Tribunal. According to her, the “justification” that the president is sending the bill to the Constitutional Tribunal “because he believes that it is carried out unconstitutionally” raises the question: “why did he sign it?”
President Andrzej Duda signed the budget law for 2024, but at the same time decided to refer it to the Constitutional Tribunal for post-control. A similar situation occurs in the case of the so-called budget-related act and the act on education. He said he did so in connection with “inability of MPs Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik to participate in the work of the Sejm on these bills“.
A day later he announced convening the Cabinet on February 13. Presidential Minister Małgorzata Paprocka said the meeting would be divided into open and secret parts. The former will be broadcast in the media.
Dziemianowicz-Bąk: it is not easy to keep up with these moods of the Presidential Palace
Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk (Left Wing) said in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 that “if such decisions are made”, she will be elected to the Cabinet together with other members of the Council of Ministers. – We will take part in the Cabinet Council, but we will take part because we will take part. Because this is the wish or call of President Andrzej Duda, she added.
In her opinion, “it is not easy to keep up with these moods of the Presidential Palace.” – I interpret this mood swing as a search for attention or a search for importance. Because what has happened to the office of the President of the Republic of Poland over the last eight years, thanks to the rule of Law and Justice and reducing Andrzej Duda to the role of a scribe, a party notary – I would say – of the ruling party, has greatly weakened this office, weakened – unfortunately and I say this with regret – its importance and the importance of such events as the Cabinet Council – said the minister.
– So I think this is some kind of attempt to attract attention, draw attention to this office, give it a certain importance, which the party from which the president comes simply deprived the president – added Dziemianowicz-Bąk.
Dziemianowicz-Bąk on the president’s decision: inconsistent, to say the least
The TVN24 guest noted that “before announcing this decision about the Cabinet Council, the president tried to draw attention to himself once again by making a decision that was, in my opinion, at least inconsistent.”
– Because signing the budget bill and sending it to the (Constitutional) Tribunal would somehow still hold together. However, the justification that the president subsequently sends (in a consequential manner – editor’s note) the bill to the Constitutional Tribunal because he believes that it has been unconstitutionally passed by the parliament – this is coming from a man who should be the guardian of the constitution – the question arises: this why did he sign it? – Dziemianowicz-Bąk continued.
– It looks as if Mr. President (…) was looking for attention and was not necessarily able to find his way in the situation in which the new political reality put him after the coalition took power on October 15 – she added.
