A Ukrainian citizen was detained at the border crossing in Budomierz (Podkarpacie). The man had been wanted by the Italian judiciary for three years. He is suspected of robbery and child abduction.
The 36-year-old tried to enter Poland through the border crossing in Budomierz. There he checked in. Then it turned out that a European Arrest Warrant had been issued against him.
– A border guard officer determined that the foreigner is a dangerous criminal wanted by the Italian services since 2018. He is suspected of a robbery in an amusement arcade in Italy and a child abduction, says the spokeswoman of the Bieszczady Border Guard Department, Major Elżbieta Pikor. And adds: – A European Arrest Warrant was issued for the man for the purpose of arrest and extradition.
Stops at the border
As the spokesman of the border guards in Bieszczady emphasizes, the man during the arrest complied with the uniformed commands and did not resist. The court will decide about his fate.
According to BiOSG data, since the beginning of 2021, officers have already detained over 250 people wanted by the Polish and foreign judiciary on the Podkarpackie section of the Polish border.
