The car entered an unguarded railway crossing in Bulowice (Małopolskie Voivodeship) right in front of the speeding train, the driver miraculously escaped from the collision unharmed. The 27-year-old can speak of double happiness – after the collision he suffered only minor injuries, and help was immediately on the spot. Nearby, a preventive action was carried out by students of a technical school with a medical rescue profile.

This incident could have been much more serious. The 27-year-old narrowly avoided serious injury and even death after he entered an unguarded level crossing right in front of an oncoming passenger train. The locomotive hit the vehicle and dragged the car several hundred meters before the train could be brought to a halt.

The incident took place on Tuesday around 9 am in Bulowice in the Oświęcim district, near Bielsko-Biała.

Near the scene of the accident – on the national road number 52 in Bulowice – police officers from the Oświęcim traffic police and students of a logistics technical school with a medical rescue profile from Brzeszcze conducted an action under the slogan “Road safety. Don’t be indifferent. React!”, teaching drivers how to provide first aid.

During the activities, the participants of the action heard a message via the radio station that a train and a car had collided at the railway crossing at Zacisze Street. – Participants of the action together with police officers stopped the action and went to the scene, which was about half a kilometer away from them. There, students, under the supervision of teachers from the Rescue Training Center, helped the injured driver. After the arrival of the services, they returned to the implementation of the preventive action – told us the staff assistant Małgorzata Jurecka, spokeswoman for the Oświęcim police.

– The train hit the car from the passenger side, not from the driver’s side, so the injuries suffered by the 27-year-old driver of the Audi were minor – Jurecka added. No one on the train was injured.

A 27-year-old resident of the commune of Kęty was fined PLN 1,300 and 10 penalty points.
