Volodymyr Zelensky met Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, who does not hide his opposition to supporting Ukraine and maintains that such aid prolongs the war. Zelensky therefore asked him a question.

Rumen Radev welcomed Volodymyr Zelensky, stressing that he had been invited to Sofia by the Bulgarian government. – I want to express solidarity with the nation Ukraine and victims of this cruel war (…). In her first months Bulgaria reached out to thousands of Ukrainian citizens, many of whom are still under the protection of the Bulgarian state, Radev said.

However, he stated that he did not support the transfer of arms to Ukraine because it weakens “Bulgaria’s defense capabilities” at a time when “the situation in the region is quite worrying.”

According to Radev, the conflict is turning into a war of attrition and a “global clash”, and it is also causing an increase in social tensions. “I still maintain that this conflict cannot have a military settlement. The more weapons, the more difficult it will be to find a solution, the Bulgarian president said.

Zelensky retorted that “this is not a conflict, but a war.”

“If it had been a conflict, millions of people would not have left our country. There is a war going on in our territory. Thank you very much, today we signed important statements on energy. One of the blackmail attempts undertaken by the Russian Federation is related to the prices of energy carriers, and then to the seizure of the Zaporizhia (nuclear) power plant. Its control is not a conflict, it is a war, stressed the Ukrainian leader.
