Difficult conditions in the Tatra Mountains

TOPR rescuer Piotr Konopka, in an interview with a TVN24 reporter, said that the conditions in the Tatra Mountains are still difficult. The conditions in the higher parts are early spring, there is a lot of snow, on the northern exhibitions this snow goes very low, even to an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level – above this altitude it is necessary to use winter equipment – crampons, ice ax and proficiency in using this equipment – he emphasized lifeguard. “Moving in such conditions requires experience in winter mountain tourism and having the appropriate equipment – crampons (not crampons!), ice ax, helmet – along with the ability to use them. In places with snow, be especially careful, because it is very slippery and slipping in steep terrain can result in a dangerous fall. An additional difficulty is the low ceiling of clouds in the ridge parts – there is a risk of getting lost due to lack of visibility” – we read in the tourist announcement of the Tatra National Park.
