The 78-year-old has been wanted since 2004, and was said to have committed the crimes several years earlier. The woman is suspected of extorting money, including from banks.

Police from Pińczów (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship) detained a 78-year-old suspected of extorting about 50,000 zlotys from private persons and banks on Tuesday. The crimes were supposed to take place around 2000.

Detained after 18 years of searching

The Pińczów prosecutor’s office decided to charge a 60-year-old woman in 2004. According to investigators, at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the woman committed a series of frauds to the detriment of individuals and credit fraud in several banks. She was supposed to extort a total of about 50,000 zlotys.

– The suspect avoided contact with the police and went into hiding. The uniforms determined that she had left the country for this purpose. Therefore, in 2010, the court decided to arrest her temporarily. The search lasted a long 18 years – informed staff aspirant Damian Stefaniec, spokesman for the Pińczów police.

In May 2022, the officers learned that the 78-year-old was in the Busko-Zdrój commune. On Tuesday she was detained and on Wednesday she was charged.

The woman faces up to eight years in prison.
