A 78-year-old resident of Bydgoszcz (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) was called by a man who said that the woman’s son had an accident and that money was needed for his surgery and treatment. Then he appeared in the 78-year-old’s apartment, pretended to be a hospital employee and collected PLN 100,000 from her. The police publish an image of a man who may be related to the crime. And he appeals to all who recognize him.

Police officers from Bydgoszcz are investigating the fraud of a 78-year-old resident of the city. The incident took place on July 6.

– The perpetrator contacted the elderly woman by phone and informed that her son had a serious accident and that money was needed for surgery and treatment. Then he came to the woman’s apartment, informing that he was from the hospital and took money from her in the amount of PLN 100,000 – Commissioner Lidia Kowalska from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz said.

Police appeals to witnesses

The police secured a video surveillance recording the image of a suspected man and collecting information that could contribute to his identification. The video shows a young man dressed in black in sunglasses. He is walking along the sidewalk next to one of the blocks and talking on the phone.

– Police officers from the Bydgoszcz-Błonie Police Station ask for help in identifying the person shown in the photo and film. All those who recognize the man or have any information about a person that may be related to the crime are asked to contact the police in person or by phone – emphasized Kowalska.
