The 36-year-old was wanted by the courts and the prosecutor’s office with five arrest warrants. He had been in hiding for 11 years. The police stopped him for inspection when he exceeded speed. He then gave his cousin’s details. However, officers noticed that it did not look like the picture in the system. They discovered the truth when they drove to the police station and took their fingerprints.

The police noticed that the Audi driver was speeding through the intersection of Gdańska Street with Powstańców Warszawy in Bydgoszcz. The officers detained the man on Powstania Listopadowego Street. A total of three men traveled by car.

– Passengers presented their identity cards, while the driver provided the police with his data orally. All persons were checked in the police information systems. Originally, there were no comments about them. However, the policemen paid attention to the appearance of the driver. He did not agree with the image of the person in the photo in the system – said Commander Lidia Kowalska from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz.

She added that the man had insisted that he had provided real details. This was also confirmed by passengers. However, the policemen found this situation suspicious. So they stopped the Audi driver and took him to the police station.

On the spot, using a specialized device, his fingerprints were checked in a database.

– Then everything became clear, and the 36-year-old stopped insisting on the accuracy of the previously given data. It turned out that the man gave his cousin’s data because he had been hiding from justice for 11 years. Under these data, his colleagues, with whom he was traveling in the car when he stopped, knew him as well. All because the man is wanted by the courts and the prosecutor’s office as many as five arrest warrants in connection with the numerous crimes committed – Kowalska informed.

As she added, the 36-year-old was also supposed to prepare his wife and teenage daughter for the fact that they would provide his cousin’s details when asked about his identity.

The man was taken to a police arrest, and consequently to a penitentiary unit.

– In addition, the 36-year-old will be responsible for offenses related to giving false personal data to police officers while identifying false personal data and driving a vehicle without authorization – added the policewoman.
