The Prosecutor’s Office from Bydgoszcz is investigating the causes of the fire, which caused multi-million losses. The production and warehouse halls and the office building burned down. The first hypotheses about the causes have already appeared, but investigators are waiting for the expert’s opinion to draw conclusions.
The Bydgoszcz-Południe District Prosecutor’s Office has initiated proceedings in the case of causing a fire threatening the health, life of people and property of considerable size in connection with Tuesday’s fire at Ołowiana Street.
Key expert opinion
Information appeared in the media that the losses were initially estimated at over PLN 30 million, but Włodzimierz Marszałkowski from the Bydgoszcz-Południe District Prosecutor’s Office does not confirm this information. “It’s too early to quantify the losses,” he says.
“We are waiting for the opinion of the fire expert. Witnesses have been questioned, the prosecutor added. He also told us that there were indications that a photovoltaic installation could be responsible for the fire. For now, it is not known whether its failure could be caused by a design defect, installer error or poor operation.
The firefighting operation lasted for many hours
The fire broke out on Tuesday at ul. Ołowiana 18 in Bydgoszcz. – We received a report about a fire in a production and warehouse building at 10:05. There are 25 fire engines on site. The next batches are no longer sent. The person in charge of the operations considered these forces to be sufficient – senior captain Karol Smarz, press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bydgoszcz, informed us on Tuesday morning.
Smarz added that the smoke was huge. Large forces were involved in extinguishing the fire, and fighting the fire lasted for many hours. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire. In total, the fire covered an area of 6,000 sq. square meters.
Textile materials were produced and stored in the halls of one of the companies, and hydraulic tanks in the neighboring one, whose hall also burned down. The workers had evacuated before the fire brigade arrived.
