Police officers from Lubuskie wanted to stop a 27-year-old man in Bytnica for a road check. The driver started running away. He drove the wrong way onto one of the streets, hit a fence and tried to escape on foot. After the arrest, it turned out that the man was banned from driving and had drugs on him.
The incident took place on October 28 in Bytnica. The police decided to stop the driver of the Volkswagen Golf for inspection. When the man drove onto the property, the officers informed him about the inspection and ordered him to stop. The driver ignored the command and started running away.
“While escaping, the man did not respond to any signals transmitted from the police car, posed a safety threat to other road users, and also blocked the officers' path, making it impossible to stop him,” we read in the Lubusz police statement.
At one point, the driver drove the wrong way onto one of the streets and hit a fence. The police blocked his path to prevent his escape, but the man got out from the passenger side and tried to escape on foot. After a dozen or so meters he was stopped.
Drugs and charges
The 27-year-old had psychoactive substances and narcotic drugs with him. Additionally, after checking the police systems, it turned out that he was banned from driving.
The man told the officers that this was why he started running away and admitted to having taken drugs earlier. Blood was taken from him for further tests.
The 27-year-old was charged with failure to stop for a road check, failure to comply with imposed penal measures and possession of drugs. If the tests confirm the presence of drugs in his system, he will also be charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
The man faces a sentence of three months to five years in prison.
