In Chatsworth, a suburb of Los Angeles, California, a huge sinkhole appeared as a result of heavy rainfall. Two cars rushed in, two people in each. Passengers in one of the vehicles managed to get out on their own, in the case of the other, emergency services had to be called.

The last few weeks have not been easy for the people of California. The region has gone strong storms with heavy rains that caused a lot of damage. There were floods, inundations and landslides. At least 12 people died.

In Chatsworth, a suburb of Los Angeles, the soil was so saturated with water that it collapsed on Monday evening. To make matters worse, a sinkhole appeared right next to the road. Since it was already quite dark, the drivers of the two vehicles did not notice the large hole in the ground. First, a passenger car entered the hole, followed by a pick-up truck.

Two people were injured

Firefighters were called to the scene. Two people who were in the second vehicle managed to get out on their own before the services arrived. They had no injuries.

The situation in the first car was different. According to rescuers, they were trapped and could not get out without support. So the firemen used a ladder and climbed down the sinkhole. They tried to stabilize the car and then pulled out two slightly injured people.

Regional authorities estimated that the sinkhole was about five meters deep. Overnight from Monday to Tuesday, it began to sink even more.
