A fire is raging in California. According to firefighters, within two days it consumed 280 hectares of green areas. The flames came dangerously close to one of the surrounding towns, and its inhabitants had to burn them immediately

The Apache Fire, which broke out on Monday near the town of Palermo in California's Butte County, had burned over 280 hectares by Tuesday evening. The time-lapse recording made on Monday shows the sky gray with smoke and flames devouring subsequent hectares. Photos provided by Cal Fire firefighters showed the fire burning red

The danger has not passed

Initially, the fire spread quickly due to strong winds and extremely dry ground, burning green areas and damaging several buildings. On Tuesday, weather conditions improved for a while, which helped firefighters partially control the fire. More than 600 firefighters supported by specialized equipment fought the flames.

Evacuation orders were issued on Tuesday for parts of the city of Palermo adjacent to the fire, and additional areas were placed under possible evacuation warnings. By evening, most residents had returned home. Local law enforcement services warned that the danger had not passed – in many districts of the city, residents should be ready to evacuate.
