A bear weighing over 200 kilograms was found under the house in California. Unlike many of his cousins, the animal did not take shelter from the cold, but against fire. The animal has been in the vicinity of Eaton destroyed for years – he even had the status of a local celebrity.

At the beginning of January, the southern California was hit by extensive fires, contributing to the death of at least 28 people. One of them, Eaton Fire, devastated around the city of Altadena on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The element disturbed the peace not only of the human inhabitants of those surroundings.

Tasty lure

As Samy Arbid said, a resident of the city destroyed by the fire, his house was partly spared by the flames. When he could finally come back to him, it turned out that a new tenant was settled in the technical corridor under his house – a black bear who weighing 230 kilograms.

– We placed a safety camera with a headlight in the corridor and it turned out that we have a giant bear there – he said in an interview with local media. – I think he hid there during a fire and was just afraid.

The unusual guest hindered access to technical infrastructure, so that the operator could not restore gas supply to the building. Technicians asked the Californian Department of Fisheries and Nature Conservation for help, which prepared a special trap. The animal was lured out of the house by a tempting smell of corner, peanut butter and other delicacies. When the bear was eating, the experts secured him, put on a GPS collar and transported to a safe place.

“The biologist told me that it was the greatest bear he had ever seen,” Arbid added.

A favorite of the community

Interestingly, the bear has lived in the area for a long time and was very well known to the inhabitants of Altadena. Some neighbors called the giant Berry, and according to others he was named Victor.

“He's quite harmless, he just wants to bury in good rubbish, like all of us,” said Arbid's neighbor. – I don't know if he was wounded, but fortunately he found a safe shelter.

The local community was afraid of the fate of wild animals after a fire. The fact that Berry -Victor survived and hit a safe place pleased the inhabitants – just like the fact that in the meantime he ate properly.
