On Friday, officials from the city of Laguna Beach south of Los Angeles received information about the descent of a landslide on a thousand stairs popular among tourists. After reaching the place, it turned out that the cliff was damaged above the beach, and the tones of falling rocks were kidnapped by one of the picturesque stairs on the shore of the ocean.

Evacuation of residents

Outside the stairs, the structures surrounding the beach looked undamaged. To make sure that the falling rocks did not kidnap any man, rescue staff carried out a thorough search of the debris. The area of ​​destroyed stairs was temporarily closed to visitors.

“It was a significant collapse,” said the head of the fire brigade in Laguna Beach Niko King. – Fortunately, no one was injured and although there is no direct threat to life and health, it is important that everyone stays away from the closed area.

Immediately after the descent, the residents of buildings located on the beach were also evacuated. Initial examination confirmed that there is no threat to other structures and people returned home. Members of the local community, however, remain concerned.

Storms and erosion

As explained by the local KTLA 9 television station, cliffs located directly at the Pacific Ocean often erosion and collapse. The pace of their destruction depends on the place. Experts warn, however, that this process accelerates through the extreme climatic conditions in California, in this summer of the prolonged drought and fires, followed by storms with huge rainfall.
