Rescuers and firefighters helped passengers get out of the wreck. Some of them were confused and unable to leave the machine themselves.
“We were lying sideways, and then we hung upside down like bats”
Pete Koukov, who was one of the passengers, said the CNN station that “he did not know that something was wrong” until they hit the ground. He described it as a fairly hard landing. “We hit the ground, lay sideways, and then hanged upside down like bats,” he said.
As he explained, he managed to unhook the belts and descend to the ground, and then leave the plane, but some needed help to get off their places.
– I felt happy and joyful that I could hug a person I didn't know, sitting next to me, that everything was fine, and see my friends who are here to pick me up from the airport and hug them tightly – he said.
Another passenger of the aircraft, John Nelson, admitted in an interview with journalists that “it is amazing that we are still here” after the plane turned upside down on the runway. He added that he did not know that something bad was happening with the plane, calling it a typical flight from Minneapolis to Toronto, but he noticed that he noticed the gusty wind and a lot of snow on the runway when they were approaching.
Nelson said that after hitting he saw a “big ball of fire” on the left side of the plane.

The man sat in the tenth row of the plane, in front of the wing. He said that when the plane stopped, people started screaming. “It was a massive chaos,” he said.
As Nelson described, he and his fellow passenger hung upside down when the machine stopped. Then they pulled the lanes and landed on its ceiling, then headed straight to the door. As they said, the air was to be a noticeable smell of aviation fuel.
– We tried to get out of there as soon as possible – he noted. He added that “even now stinks with fuel.”
Experts will now analyze recordings, weather data and witness testimonies to explain how the accident happened.
