Another wave of heavy snowfall, associated with the influx of cold air masses, hit Japan on Saturday. It was most intensively rained along the coast of the Japanese Sea and in the north of the country. Dozens of flights were canceled, there are difficulties in trains.

Heavy snowfall appeared on Saturday even in the lower areas in the central and western part of Japan, where it is usually not much.

Canceled flights, suspended trains

Dozens of flights were canceled due to difficult weather conditions. According to the Japanese public sender of NHK, trains were partly suspended. Difficulties are also recorded on roads where many cars are almost completely buried.

In the area of ​​the Sukay Onsen in the AOMORI prefecture, the snow cover is 388 centimeters, and in Uonuma in Niigata prefecture – 320 cm. On Saturday, in six hours in the city of Kusatsu in the Gunma prefecture, 21 cm of snow fell, and in the city of Daisen in Tottori prefecture – 18 cm.

In the next day, snowfall is expected to 70 cm in the mountainous areas of the Tohoku region, 60 centimeters in the prefecture of Niigat and the Kanto-Koshin region, 50 centimeters in the prefecture of the gif and the Kinki region and 40 centimeters in the regions of Hokurik and Chugoku.

The Japanese meteorological agency (JMA) said that snow will fall until Sunday, mainly on the Japanese sea coast and in mountainous areas.

Appeal for caution

Representatives of meteorological services call for caution in connection with snowfall. Warn against storms snowy, power outages, fallen trees and snow sliding off the buildings.
