The former player and 2006 World Cup champion Fabio Cannavaro spoke about the problems of Italian football. And he did not mince his words.
– I expected this after such European Championships (the lack of Italians in the Golden Ball – editorial note). Let's stop deluding ourselves. For years we have not been aware of the crisis that is affecting us. We simply have to get back to doing what ensured our victory. That is, working with the youth. Some do not know how to run. Some players from Serie A receive the ball in three moves – he said in an interview with “La Gazzetta dello Sport”.
Cannavaro also named the only Serie A player who could do well at the highest level. And he wasn't referring to any Italian. “Lautaro is Inter's great treasure. He won the national championship and the Copa America. He never disappoints, even in the national team he always makes the difference. He scores goals, he sacrifices, but above all he is hungry to play. I hope Inter and Serie A never lose him. When you ask yourself which of us would play for Real or City, you say Lautaro,” he added.
After ending his career, Fabio Cannavaro became a coach. So far, he has managed Guangzhou Evergrande, the Chinese national team, Benevento and Udinese. He was also linked with the position of coach of the Polish national team. He has been unemployed since June this year and revealed his plans for the future. – I had offers from Nigeria, Iranian clubs, but I want to wait until December for offers from Italy or at least Europe – he concluded.
