The most anticipated films of the Cannes festival

Among the stars of the festival that will appear on the red carpet in Cannes, the media expect Johnny Depp – for the first time since the court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard. The actor plays the role of Louis XV century “King’s Mistresses” – a French costume production opening this year’s Cannes, directed by Maïwenn, who also wrote the script and played the title character. The film tells the story of the seamstress Joanna, who becomes the official mistress of the French ruler.

One of the most anticipated premieres of this year’s Cannes Film Festival is “asteroid city”, a new Wes Anderson movie starring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hanks. It is a story about a reunion of a group of students and parents, which is “spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events,” we read on the festival’s website. “Is it a science-fiction film? A romantic comedy? It’s hard to go into details (about the plot – ed.), but the trailer suggests that it’s a very Wes Anderson-style production,” the BBC portal assessed just before the event.

Cannes viewers as part of the main competition will also watch “Area of Interest” Jonathan Glazer talking about the first commandant of the German Auschwitz camp, Rudolf Hösse and his wife Hedwig, who are “trying to build a dream life for their family in the house and garden next to the camp.” The New York Times recalled reports that another Glazer film, “Under the Skin”, a decade earlier, had “missed attention at Cannes” and that the organizers of the event “wanted to rectify that mistake”.

The plot of the film, which will be presented out of competition, takes place many years after the end of World War II, but the opponents of the title character will again be Nazis who want to take over the world. Harrison Ford was digitally rejuvenated for the film. – I shot him as if he was still 35 years old. He is still an incredibly talented, agile and physically fit actor despite being 80 years old – said Mangold.
