The Golden Palm of the 78th Film Festival in Cannes was awarded the film “Un Simple Accident” directed by Jafar Panahi. The jury led by Juliette Binoche awarded the great prize to the jury of the film “Affexjonsverdi” directed by Joachim Trier.

Interestingly, this year's favorites were largely not among the winners. The Golden Palm was awarded to the film “Un Simple Accident” directed by one of the most outstanding Iranian filmmakers in history – Jafar Panahi. The filmmaker repeatedly exposed the regime with his work and arrested. Although his films have been shown many times in Cannes in the last two decades, the director himself appeared on the azure coast for the last time in 2003.

This is the second in the history of the French Golden Palma festival for the film directed by Iranian. The first one in 1997 was won by the “Cherry of Cherry” directed by Abbas Kirostami.

The second largest prize of the festival – the great prize of the jury – was won by “Affexjonsverdi” directed by Joachim Trier.
