Carl Weathers, the actor known from the “Rocky” films, is dead, his manager announced on Friday. He added that Weathers “died peacefully, in his sleep.” He was 76 years old.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep,” Matt Luber, the actor’s manager, said in a statement. He added that the artist died on Thursday. He was 76 years old.

Carl Weathers was a former professional American football player. However, he withdrew from sports to appear on the big screen. As an actor, he gained fame for playing the charismatic boxer Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” films. His character was initially a rival and later a friend of the titular Rocky in the first four productions of this series.

He also starred in “Predator” in 1987 and in “Lucky Gilmore” alongside Adam Sandler. He also appeared in the series “The Mandalorian”. He also became known as a dubbing actor. He provided the voice of the soldier Carl in “Toy Story 4”.
