A tree fell on a rollercoaster in one of the amusement parks in Catalonia. According to the park authorities, strong winds were responsible for the incident. 14 people were injured, including two in a critical condition.

It has been raging on the Iberian Peninsula since Friday storm Karlotta, bringing with it downpours and strong gusts of wind. A serious accident related to violent weather occurred on Sunday morning at the PortAventura amusement park near Tarragona.

14 people injured

“On Sunday morning, due to strong winds, there was an incident caused by a tree falling near the Tomahawk rollercoaster,” it said. “Some of the branches hit the guys who were on the roller coaster.”

Catalan emergency services reported that 14 people were injured. Two people in critical condition were transported to two separate hospitals. Three people in less serious condition were also taken to hospital.

The park authorities added that the event is unrelated to the operation of the attractions themselves, which are subject to daily inspections
