Cate Blanchett has many famous films to his credit. The most popular productions include: “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”“The Aviator”, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Blue Jasmine”, “Carol” and “Tár”. We are even more pleased that the winner of two Oscars, beloved by crowds all over the world, is staying in Poland. The Australian actress accepted the invitation from the organizers of one of the most popular Polish film festivals. This is EnergaCAMERIMAGE, which takes place between November 16 and 23 in Toruń. The star is the head of the jury in the main competition of the festival. Her first photos from our country have just appeared.
Cate Blanchett at a festival in Poland. See what she looked like
Cate Blanchett looked chic during her first public appearance in Toruń. The star chose for this occasion blue suit with an oversize jacket tied at the waist. She chose this bell-bottom trousers and suede bottle green high heels. The entire styling was completed with an original mini handbag resembling a retro suitcase. Some time ago, the actress assured that she had dreamed of participating in our festival for a long time. – Movies they're like lightning in a bottle, and I've had the enormous creative privilege of working with some of the great lightning catchers – cinematographers who have forever changed the way I look at the world. Being among them at EnergaCAMERIMAGE is a dream come true – commented Cate Blanchett when she accepted the invitation from the organizers.
EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2024 in the shadow of scandal
This year's Camerimage festival brought a scandal just before it started. All because of the words of the festival director, Marek Żydowicz. A man in one magazine suggested, among other things, that changes in parity in the cinematography and film industries could bring more mediocre films. This was criticized by the British and American associations of cinematographers. Director Steve McQueen canceled his presence in Toruń at the last minute (November 12). Other members of the jury did not follow suit, but issued a statement. “We welcome debate on gender representation,” they wrote in a letter published by Anna Higgs and Sandy Powell. Apart from them, the jury includes Cate Blanchett, Anthony Dod Mantle, Rodrigo Prieto, Łukasz Żal and Jolanta Dylewska.
“We look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions with our peers at the festival about greater inclusion and recognizing excellence in all its forms in the film industry. We wholeheartedly support the necessary shift towards true inclusivity, and festivals can be a great forum to engage in such conversations and promoting positive changes,” they added. Let us add that the festival director apologized several times for his words. “It was never my intention to undermine the achievements of filmmakers whose work I greatly value and respect,” he said.
