The officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, detained another five people in the investigation of a group dealing in illegal trade in firearms and ammunition and in the manufacture of weapons. More than 100 people are suspected in this case.
Spokesperson for the CBŚP, sub-inspector Iwona Jurkiewicz, informed that police officers from the Łódź CBŚP have been working on the case of an organized criminal group that dealt with illegal firearms for over two years. According to the findings of the investigators, the group operated in Poland, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and other European Union countries.
Only in Poland 250 units of firearms and several thousand rounds of ammunition
– The first powerful attack was carried out by CBŚP police officers in April 2022, with the support of officers from the Warsaw Police Headquarters, Voivodship Police Headquarters from many provinces, the Central Counter-Terrorist Subunit of the Police BOA, SPKP, Border Guard and officers from the Netherlands and Europol employees. At that time, 82 people were detained in Poland and the Netherlands, and 250 units of firearms of various types and calibers and several thousand pieces of ammunition were seized in Poland alone, stressed sub-inspector Iwona Jurkiewicz.
Further arrests took place on Tuesday (December 6) in the following provinces: Łódzkie, Śląskie, Lubelskie and Wielkopolskie. Five people were arrested during the operation. During the searches of residential and utility rooms, five units of firearms of various calibers, two important elements of firearms (barrels with a cartridge chamber) and 16 pieces of ammunition were secured, sub-inspector Jurkiewicz calculated.
The detainees were brought to the Łódź Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź, where they were charged with, among other things, possession of firearms or ammunition and possession of dangerous materials. In total, 275 units of firearms, several thousand pieces of ammunition and several hundred important elements of weapons have already been secured in the investigation. There are already 109 suspects facing more than 140 charges. The charges may be punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
