CBŚP action. Another two people suspected of illegal arms and ammunition trafficking. 134 weapons were secured

Two persons detained, 134 units of firearms and almost 1,900 rounds of ammunition seized – this is the result of the action of the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police aimed at illegal arms trade. In total, there are already 36 suspects in the case. Now, investigators will whether the seized firearm was used in a crime.

According to sub-inspector Iwona Jurkiewicz, spokeswoman for the Central Police Investigation Bureau, police officers from the Lublin CBŚP, under the supervision of the Lublin National Prosecutor’s Office, have been investigating a group dealing in illegal firearms and ammunition trafficking for two years – The first attack on the group took place in mid-2021. The policemen then detained seven people and seized, among others, 183 units of short firearms, 103 units of long firearms, the policewoman reports.

The police officers carried out further actions at the end of 2022, when they detained 13 people and secured 146 units of firearms, over 30 pieces of weapons and over two thousand pieces of ammunition.

They will check if the gun was used in crimes

The last action took place in March in the Łódź and Silesian provinces, where the police detained two people. – In total, during the operation, the police officers secured 134 units of various firearms, 54 pieces of essential elements of weapons, as well as almost 1,900 pieces of ammunition – lists Jurkiewicz. Among the weapons seized were: long guns, short guns and submachine guns.

– The weapon was stored in various ways, sometimes extremely dangerous, i.e. loaded or with access for outsiders. The units and other items secured by the police officers will be subject to a detailed analysis by investigators, who will now determine, among other things, whether the seized weapons could have been used to commit crimes.

They heard the charges, they face up to eight years in prison

The detainees were brought to the Lublin Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin. “The prosecutor charged two detained persons with possession of firearms and ammunition without the required permit,” the Press Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office announced in a statement.

The prosecutor applied preventive measures to the suspects in the form of property sureties in the amount of PLN 10,000 and PLN 40,000.

The charges are punishable by up to eight years in prison.

36 people with charges found 571 units of firearms

According to prosecutors, earlier in the course of the investigation, 34 people were charged, including participation in an organized crime group, trafficking and possession of firearms and explosives without the required permit. “A total of 571 units of firearms, 186 essential parts of firearms and about nine thousand rounds of ammunition of various calibers were seized during the investigation,” the National Prosecutor’s Office said.

Investigators do not rule out further arrests and charges in this case.
