Nearly 90 officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police and the National Revenue Administration – in six provinces – detained 20 people. The investigation concerns a tax carousel and issuing “empty” VAT invoices. According to the National Prosecutor’s Office, among the detainees is Paweł P., a friend of Iwona Wieczorek, who in December 2022 was charged with obstructing the investigation into the disappearance of a teenager from Gdańsk.

Spokeswoman of the Central Police Investigation Bureau subinsp. Iwona Jurkiewicz said that the case concerned an organized criminal group that was supposed to deal with the introduction of counterfeit and untrue documentation, which was then the basis for lowering the taxes due. – The investigation covers the years 2018-2023 – emphasized the policewoman. – The findings of the officers show that the “production of blank invoices” took place with the use of business entities registered on the so-called poles, which did not actually run any business she explained.

According to the findings of the investigation so far, several dozen companies were involved in the illegal practice, which issued fictitious invoices, mainly cost ones, as part of IT services, business intermediation and the sale of various goods. – Companies issuing fictitious invoices used the services of other people who acted as intermediaries between recipients and producers of unreliable documentation, which they were supposed to simulate actual business relations – said Jurkiewicz.

The investigation in this case is conducted by policemen from the Bydgoszcz Central Investigation Bureau of the Police and officers from the Kuyavian-Pomeranian branch of the National Revenue Administration under the supervision of the West Pomeranian department of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

– In the last days of March, nearly 90 officers CBSP and KAS carried out activities in the Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Dolnośląskie, Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodeships. The activities were carried out with the support of policemen from the boards of CBŚP: in Szczecin, Gdańsk and Wrocław. During the operation, 20 people were detained, a spokeswoman for CBŚP said.

The detainees were brought to the West Pomeranian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin. “The prosecutor presented the detained with allegations concerning, inter alia, participation in an organized criminal group, extortion VAT classified as penal fiscal offences, issuing and accepting unreliable VAT invoices and +money laundering+” – informed the Press Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

“Among the detainees is Paweł P., who in December 2022 was charged by the Małopolska Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow, including hindering the investigation into the disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek“- reported PK.

“Due to the need to secure the proper course of the proceedings, at the prosecutor’s request, the court applied a preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention to two suspects. One of the arrested is Paweł P. For the other suspects, the prosecutor applied preventive measures in the form of a property surety from PLN 10,000 to PLN 200,000 , police supervision combined with a ban on contacting co-suspects and a ban on leaving the country,” PK added. As the investigators pointed out, at the current stage of the investigation it was established that the amount of tax deductions is over PLN 55 million. In total, there are 24 suspects in the investigation. At the same time, they assured that the investigation has a multithreaded and developmental character and further arrests cannot be ruled out. The charges could be punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
