Chanukah candles will probably be lit again in the Sejm on Thursday afternoon, said Marshal Szymon Hołownia. As he said, the right gesture would be for the entire Presidium of the Sejm to appear at the ceremony, including Vice-Marshal Krzysztof Bosak from Konfederacja. On Tuesday, Grzegorz Braun, an MP from this party, extinguished the candles using a fire extinguisher. As TVN24 reporter Agata Adamek reported, the Hanukkah stands today in the Sejm hall behind barriers.

On Tuesday afternoon, Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun took a fire extinguisher that was standing in the Sejm corridor, approached the Hanukkah candles and extinguished them, disrupting the ceremony dedicated to the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah taking place on the premises of the Sejm. During the celebration, candles are lit on a nine-branched candlestick – hanukkiah. Such celebrations have been held in the Sejm for 17 years.

Hołownia: the right gesture would be for the entire Presidium of the Sejm to appear at the ceremony

Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced on Wednesday that “the Hanukkah candle will probably be lit tomorrow at 4 p.m.” – I will confirm this with Minister (Jack) Cichocki. Talks with the Jewish community are ongoing, he added.

According to the Marshal of the Sejm, an appropriate gesture would be for the entire Presidium of the Sejm to appear at the ceremony.

He said that the Speaker of the Senate announced her participation in the event Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska. He added that there would be those MPs who would have the opportunity to participate in this ceremony.

– I hope that Marshal Bosak will also stand with us then. This would be very necessary – added Hołownia.

The Deputy Speaker of the Sejm also said in an interview with TVN24 reporter Agata Adamek that the ceremony will most likely be repeated on Thursday at 4 p.m. Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

The journalist noticed that the Chanukah is standing behind barriers in the Sejm today.

Czarzasty: someone completely irresponsible used a fire extinguisher, and now we have to put out the fire

The Left’s motion to dismiss, announced by MP Anna Maria Żukowska, was received by the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation) from the position of Deputy Speaker of the Sejm. It was indicated that Bosak enabled Braun to deliver an anti-Semitic speech in which, among other things, called the Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony “racist.”

Czarzasty said in an interview with a TVN24 reporter that he would not like to see Barefoot in the Presidium of the Sejm.

– We, as the Left, and I am one of the leaders of the Left, have been extremely consistent on this matter. We talked about the fact that there should not be a representative of the Confederation appointed to the Presidium of the Sejm. We were the only ones who voted against it, he noted.

As he said, “it is not the case that the nice face of Mr. (Sławomir) Mentzen and the nice face of Mr. Bosak will cover Mr. Mentzen’s five postulates and main theses, will cover his attitude towards women, will cover his attitude towards Russia, towards Jews, towards all types of minorities.”

– Evil has awakened. I mean, the effect is that yesterday, all foreign stations reported the appointment Donald Tusk information about the fire extinguisher won. Yesterday, someone completely irresponsible used a fire extinguisher, and now we have to put out the fire, which was started by the Confederation, said Czarzasty.

– If someone thought that something that you don’t move doesn’t stink, it turns out that if you move it, it stinks. And I think, I really think very consistently, that such a very democratic and very cool idea, that everyone would have representatives in the Presidium of the Sejm, came into contact with pragmatic reality yesterday – he added.

The Deputy Marshal said that he was “very curious who will vote in defense of Mr. Bosak as a representative of the Confederation.”

– I know one thing. Whoever votes for him to stay and for the Confederation to have a representative in the Presidium takes responsibility for Bosak and the Confederation, he said.

The Marshal of the Sejm excluded MP Braun from the session. The Presidium of the Sejm imposed financial penalties on him. On the same day, late in the evening, the Chancellery of the Sejm notified the prosecutor’s office about the possibility of committing a crime, assessing that Braun’s behavior may “be qualified as acts constituting a crime against freedom of conscience and religion, against honor and bodily inviolability, and against general security.”

On Wednesday morning, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw ex officio initiated proceedings regarding Tuesday’s events in the Sejm with the participation of a Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland – said the spokesman of this prosecutor’s office, Szymon Banna.
