As PKP Intercity writes in its communication, “the introduction of lower prices is possible due to additional optimization activities and an increase in compensation for PKP Intercity for 2023 under the Public Service Contract (PSC)”.

Compensation increase

The increase in compensation under the PSC agreement partly mitigates the significant increase in operating costs for PKP Intercity resulting from a very large increase in electricity prices mainly due to Russian aggression against Ukraine and inflation. The purchase of electricity is the company’s biggest cost. In 2019, this cost amounted to approx. PLN 500 million gross, in 2023 the forecasted cost of purchasing electricity will amount to as much as PLN 1.5 billion gross, i.e. three times more.

The promotional offers offered by PKP Intercity allow you to additionally reduce travel costs, similarly to the statutory discounts applicable to trains. In 2022, 25.4 million passengers of the carrier’s trains took advantage of promotional offers and discounts.

Money back possible

Following the lower prices of single tickets, the prices of section tickets, Intercity Cards (entitling to unlimited travel on PKP Intercity trains on any route), as well as fees for the transport of bicycles, dogs and luggage, are also reduced. Persons who have purchased section tickets or Intercity Cards at prices valid from 11 January this year. will be entitled to a refund in proportion to the number of unused days.
