Today is a happy day for us, because today the nation is regaining control over its own television, said Michał Kamiński (PSL-Trzecia Droga), deputy speaker of the Senate in “Kropka nad i”, commenting on the changes in the public media. Senator Stanisław Karczewski (PiS) admitted that he was among the club’s politicians who appeared on TVP to defend the propaganda tube he had created. – Our intervention, or even not intervention, just presence there, I believed was necessary – he argued.

On Wednesday after 11 a.m. the TVP Info channel stopped broadcasting. The station’s online portal is also not working. Regional televisions also do not broadcast their schedules, instead there is a TVP2 antenna.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage announced that the head of this ministry Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz dismissed the presidents of the management boards of Telewizja Polska, Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency and supervisory boards of these companies. The day before in the evening, the Sejm adopted a resolution on the restoration of legal order and the impartiality and reliability of the public media and PAP.

At the TVP headquarters both on Tuesday and MPs from the Law and Justice club appeared on Wednesdayto defend the propaganda tube he created.

These events were commented on “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 by the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Michał Kamiński (PSL-Trzecia Droga) and senator Stanisław Karczewski (PIS).

Karczewski: this is something that should never happen

Karczewski admitted that he was also at the TVP headquarters, although “briefly”. – I just wanted to find out and see what is (…) possible within the framework of parliamentary and senatorial control. We saw a lot of interventions by Mr. (Dariusz) Joński and (Michał) Szczerba, so our intervention, or even not intervention, just being there, I thought was necessary, he said.

He said that “this is a tragic day.” – For the second time in my life, the television signal was turned off. I vividly recalled martial law. Then I would go to the roof and tinker with the antenna. At the moment, such acrobatics would be of no use, said the senator.

According to him, “the signal was turned off in an absolutely illegal manner.” – This is trampling on democracy, trampling on media pluralism. This is something that should never have happened, he added.

Kamiński: today the nation regains control over its television

– Today is a happy day for us, because today the nation is regaining control over its television, commented Kamiński.

He also disagreed with Karczewski’s comparison with martial law. – Well, the fundamental difference between December 13 and today is that then, on December 13 (…), what happened to television was aimed at Russifying Poland. In a political sense, Russify. Today’s shutdown of the TVP Info signal is aimed at derussifying Poland, he said.

– Because the public television that we have had for the last eight years, almost dot by dot, one could say toka by toka, repeated the same method of doing politics, and sometimes simply said exactly the same as Russian television about Europe, minorities and so on, he continued.

In his opinion, “what happened today happened as an expression of the will of the nation that expressed itself in these elections.” – The nation has expressed its opinion on what model of Polish freedom and democracy it expects and has expressed its opinion unequivocally – added the Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

When asked why Minister Sienkiewicz decided to dismiss the current presidents of public media, Kamiński replied: – Firstly, because he was obliged to do so by a resolution of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, and ministers are responsible for acting in accordance with the will of the parliamentary majority.
