Changes in the management board of Bank Pekao. There is a new president

There are changes at the highest level of Bank Pekao. Cezary Stypułkowski, former long-time president of mBank, will be at the helm. However, he is to take up his new position only in a few months, and the consent of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority will also be necessary.

The personnel changes were announced in the company's current report on Tuesday. Cezary Stypułkowski is to head the bank.

New president

As we read, he will take up this position “provided and upon obtaining the consent of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, but not earlier than on October 5, 2024.”

As reported, if the consent of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority is not obtained by 5 October 2024, Stypułkowski will be appointed vice-president of the bank's management board and will be entrusted with managing the work of the management board until the condition is met.

The Supervisory Board of Bank Pekao also appointed Robert Sochacki to the position of Vice President of the Management Board of the bank, effective July 10, 2024, who will manage the work of the management board until Cezary Stypułkowski is appointed to the bank's management board. In addition, Dagmara Wojnar was also appointed to the position of Vice President of the Management Board on July 18, 2024.

In connection with his appointment to the management board, Sochacki resigned from his membership in the bank’s supervisory board, effective July 9, 2024.

It was indicated that the competition procedure for the remaining positions remains open.

Who is Cezary Stypułkowski?

Cezary Stypułkowski was the president of mBank from 2010 to 4 July 2024. He serves as vice-chairman of the Council of the Polish Bank Association and chairman of the Large Banks Section at the Polish Bank Association. Since 2022, he has been a member of the international board of advisors to MasterCard.

In addition, in 2006-2010 he worked at JP Morgan in London, where from 2007 he was the Managing Director of JP Morgan's investment bank for Central and Eastern Europe. In 2003-2006 he was the President of the Management Board of the PZU Group, and in 1991-2003 he headed the Management Board of Bank Handlowy in Warsaw.

He was a member of the international advisory board of Deutsche Bank, the European Advisory Board of JP Morgan, the international advisory board of INSEAD and a member of the Geneva Association. Since 2012 he has been co-chair of the Emerging Markets Advisory Council at the Institute of International Finance in Washington – an organization representing almost 500 financial institutions. He holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Warsaw. In the late 1980s, he studied at the Columbia University Business School in New York as a Fulbright scholar.
