A 52-year-old cyclist who was run over by a BMW driver is dead. While overtaking in the town of Serniki (Lublin Province), the 26-year-old lost control of the steering wheel and turned into the opposite lane. The car stopped in a tree. The driver was taken to the hospital.
The tragedy happened on Thursday (November 11) after 3 p.m. on the section of the Serniki-Wola Sernicka road.
– Initial police findings show that a 26-year-old BMW driver, while overtaking another passenger car, lost control of his car, drove into the opposite lane and ran into a cyclist. Then he hit a tree – says senior sergeant Jagoda Stanicka from the County Police Headquarters in Lubartów.
The BMW driver was sober
A resident of the Serniki commune, who was riding a bicycle, was killed on the spot. On the other hand, a BMW driver (a resident of the same commune) was hospitalized with injuries. He was sober.
– The policemen secured the scene. All activities were carried out under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office – emphasizes St. Sgt. Stanicka.
The car was completely destroyed
The impact force was so great that the car is only suitable for scrap.
In addition to the police and the medical rescue team, firefighters from the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lubartów and the Volunteer Fire Service from Nowa Wola took part in the action.
