Ten children aged 4 to 16 were under the care of a Ukrainian woman who fled with them to Poznań after the outbreak of the war. She was supposed to provide them with care and a normal life. She has just appeared in court accused of cruel child abuse and prostitution. She pleaded guilty to some of the charges.
The couple heard about this horror from Ukrainian orphans and went to the prosecutor’s office with it. The Polish family helped Switłana P., who escaped the war with ten children for whom she was a foster family. Worse than this nightmare was sexual violence, starvation and beatings. The 52-year-old admitted only that she paid too little attention to her children. “Maybe I hurt them because I didn’t surround them with love and care,” she said.
According to the prosecutor’s office, she offered children to paedophiles in Poland and Ukraine. – Together and in agreement with unidentified men, making it a permanent source of income, she handed over a minor to them in order to force her to have sexual intercourse – Aneta Chamczyńska-Penkala from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań reported.
The details of the procedure are disclosed by “Gazeta Wyborcza”. They are shocking. – They held her by the hair and raped her, while her mother stood in the doorway with the phone in her hand and measured the time. She counted if 20 minutes had passed. These men probably paid for those 20 minutes. The children said “mother did not save us” – says Piotr Żytnicki from “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
The woman claims that she would not harm the children entrusted to her. – She limited access to food and drink, leading to extreme malnutrition – informed prosecutor Aneta Chamczyńska-Penkala.
The female foster family was 14 years old – there were never to be complaints. The children were questioned in the presence of psychologists to rule out mistakes. In Poland, a woman faces up to fifteen years in prison – the accused feels like a victim herself. – There is no correlation between one piece of evidence and another – believes Jędrzej Kwiczor, Switłana P.’s defender. The children were helped by psychologists. They are slowly coming together.
