A series of earthquakes haunted Drake on Friday, which separates the earth fiery from the western Antarctica. 7.4 magnitude had the strongest shock – the US geological service informed (USGS).
The epicenter of the strongest shock, with a magnitude 7.4, was 219 kilometers west of the city of Ushuaia located in Argentina, 'said the geological service of the United States (USGS). She added that the shock occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Risk Tsunami
The Senapred Chilean disaster agency announced on Friday that the coastal area of the Magallanes region should be evacuated due to the risk of Tsunami.
“We call for the evacuation of the inhabitants of the entire coast of the Magallanes region,” wrote President Gabriel Boric on the X.
Senapred introduced a state of caution, an alarm related to small tsunas. The Noaa agency said that in Antarctica waves with a height of 0.3 to 1 meter are expected, and in Chile from 1 to 3 meters.
The Chilean hydrographic and oceanographic service (Shoa) estimated that the tsunami waves would reach bases in Antarctica and cities located on the extreme south of Chile at the coming hours. In the Argentine city of Ushuaia, considered the most far away in the world south, navigation was banned for at least three hours.
– We had to evacuate from work, but people are calm and well prepared – said one of the residents in an interview with a local television reporter.
