In a hospital in Xi'an, China, siblings were born in two separate uteruses of one woman. The facility informs that it is “extremely rare” for both women to conceive naturally.

Information about the birth of a boy and a girl by cesarean section was provided by a hospital in Xi'an, calling the birth of children developing in two uteruses of one woman “one in a million.” In a post posted on its official Weibo account on September 18, the hospital emphasized that it is “extremely rare” for a natural conception to occur in both uteruses, “and even rarer” for such a pregnancy to be carried to term.

The hospital where the siblings were born did not disclose detailed information about the mother's identity, only stating that her surname was Li. Her story has already conquered Chinese social media, and posts about it have been viewed over 50 million times, CNN reported on Tuesday.

Double uterus and 'one in a million' birth

According to CNN, citing the hospital, Mrs. Li's son weighed 3.2 kilograms right after birth, while her daughter weighed 2.4 kg. A woman who had previously had a miscarriage found out in January that she would become a mother of twins.

A double uterus – two uteruses in one woman – is an anomaly that occurs at the stage of embryonic development. According to available data, it was detected in only 0.3%. women around the world. Many of them only find out about it during pregnancy. – Most often, these are single pregnancies. They can occur once in one uterus, sometimes in the other, but this is extremely rare – explained in “Fakty” TVN by Dr. Gizela Jagielskagynecologist and deputy director of the District Hospital Complex in Oleśnica. Double pregnancy in women with two uteruses is so rare that there are no exact statistics on it.

Last December, the American media wrote about a 32-year-old American woman who gave birth to two daughters developing in two uteruses. Roxi Layla was born on December 19, and her sister Rebel Laken a day later.
