According to Chinese media, the incident occurred on September 6 during extracurricular activities. The impact with a metal set left a five-centimeter-deep wound in the girl’s head, reports “SCPM”. The Pengpai Xinwen website reported that the set square was made of tempered glass.
In the hospital, the 9-year-old had to undergo surgery to trepan the skull and remove bone fragments and foreign bodies. The procedure lasted five hours. According to the girl’s father, she is still in the intensive care unit.
Media: the teacher was detained
A teacher surnamed Song was detained by local police, Chinese media reported. The parent of one of the school’s students told journalists that there had been complaints about his corporal punishment in the past.
According to the media, Song stated that he wanted to hit another student with the set square, but accidentally hit the 9-year-old girl.
After the attack, the teacher took the girl to the school doctor, who found her injuries minor and recommended only stitching the wound. For this purpose, the student was sent to the hospital, where she was not provided immediate help either. Only then were the parents informed, who had to beg the hospital staff to conduct tests and make a formal diagnosis, SCMP reported.
