China. Typhoon Saola is approaching the southeast coast. Flights and trains canceled, schools closed

Typhoon Saola is approaching the southeastern coast of China with winds of over 200 kilometers per hour. Shenzhen Airport suspended all flights and some train connections were also canceled.

Saola threatens Guangdong and Hong Kong provinces. China’s meteorological service has issued the highest level alert. The typhoon, located 315 kilometers southeast of the province on Thursday evening, is moving towards the coast. Currently, the element generates winds with a speed of 209 kilometers per hour.

Meteorologists warn of very strong winds and heavy rain, causing floods. The downpours are also expected to affect the neighboring province of Fujian.

Canceled flights, train services and closed schools

The typhoon is expected to hit an area from Huilai County in Guangdong Province to Hong Kong on Friday afternoon or evening local time. The decision was made to close all schools.

Shenzhen International Airport has canceled all flights. Several main railway connections have been suspended. Among other things, there are no trains from Shanghai to Guangdong province.

Saola may turn out to be one of the five strongest typhoons in this part of China since 1949.

At the end of July, China was hit by typhoon Doksuri, causing the death of dozens of people. Beijing then experienced the heaviest rainfall in 140 years.
