Chinese language state media labels Sen. Tom Cotton ‘political garbage’ over Olympic boycott name

Sen. Tom Cotton’s name for a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing drew a pointy response from Chinese language state-run media on Friday, additional highlighting tensions between the 2 nations.

“For these causes — the security and safety of our personal athletes and China’s crimes in opposition to the world, we must always launch a whole and complete boycott of China’s genocide Olympics,” Cotton stated. 

“I remorse that this might forestall about 300 of America’s world-class athletes from competing within the Olympics. I sympathize with them. Nevertheless, they’ve been failed by this administration, who months in the past, months in the past, might have labored with our allies to develop a plan to conduct these video games in a foreign country,” he added.

President Biden stated his administration was “contemplating” a diplomatic boycott of the Olympics, which might enable U.S. athletes to compete.
